Cullen Kevin John Chardonnay 2023 is produced by Cullen Wines from its biodynamically certified estate in Wilyabrup, Margaret River, Australia. The low-yielding 2023 vintage produced exceptionally small, concentrated berries following a cool, wet start to the season and a dry period from December through harvest. Made from 100% dry-farmed Wente/Gin Gin clone Chardonnay planted between 1976 and 1988, the fruit was hand harvested over three weeks according to the biodynamic calendar, whole-bunch basket pressed and fermented in concrete egg, amphorae and biodynamic oak puncheons. The wine matured for eight months in puncheons, 80% new, before bottling without fining or filtration.

The appearance is light to medium yellow with youthful brightness.

The nose is powerful and complex, showing white flowers, orange blossom, peach, nectarine and dried pear alongside grapefruit, vanilla, curry leaf and fine oak-derived spice.

The palate is concentrated, textural and tightly structured, with peach, nectarine and grapefruit framed by pronounced phenolic tension and energetic acidity. Layers of lime, spice and nutty richness add complexity, while the exceptionally low-yielding fruit provides impressive power and persistence through a firm, clean finish.

A benchmark 2023 Margaret River Chardonnay combining the concentration of a low-yielding vintage with biodynamic viticulture, precise acidity and exceptional length, with strong potential for extended cellaring.
