Planted by Phil Sexton in 1997, this vineyard has become one of the Yarra Valley’s defining Chardonnay sites. Thin soils, tough rocky clays and naturally low yields produce fruit of remarkable concentration, built around the famed Gingin and Mendoza clones.

The 2024 vintage was shaped by a classic Yarra Valley season: a cool spring, an even flowering, and a clean, fast ripening period that delivered brightness and precision. In the winery, fruit was hand-picked, whole-bunch pressed and wild-fermented in large French oak puncheons (20% new), with a touch of malolactic fermentation to soften edges. Nine months on lees has brought textural depth without obscuring the vineyard’s drive and clarity.

Sexton Vineyard Chardonnay sits at the confident heart of Giant Steps’ single-vineyard range. Its character is shaped by site, clone and aspect, delivering a wine that is both open and structured—an expression that balances power with restraint and rewards patient cellaring.
