Henschke Mount Edelstone Shiraz 2017 is produced by Henschke from the historic Mount Edelstone Vineyard in Eden Valley, South Australia. The 2017 vintage is 100% Shiraz from ungrafted vines planted in 1912, making this one of Australia’s most celebrated single-vineyard old-vine wines. The fruit was hand-picked before fermentation in traditional open-top fermenters and maturation for 18 months in oak hogsheads, comprising 79% French and 21% American oak, with 28% new oak.

The appearance is deep crimson with vibrant purple hues.

The nose is highly perfumed and complex, showing blackberry, blueberry and ripe plum alongside violets, sage, black pepper and anise. Layers of dark chocolate, cedar and subtle smoky oak add depth while retaining the distinctive aromatic character of the vineyard.

The palate is rich, concentrated and beautifully structured, with blackberry, plum and blueberry fruit complemented by liquorice, pepper, dried herbs and dark chocolate. Fine, mature tannins provide a long structural framework, while balanced acidity and integrated oak preserve freshness, elegance and precision.
