Lethbridge Que Syrah Syrah is produced by Lethbridge Wines from 100% Shiraz grown at the Malakoff Vineyard in Victoria’s Pyrenees, Australia. The elevated vineyard near Landsborough sits around 300 metres above sea level on iron-rich red clay scattered with ironstone and quartz. The name “Syrah” signals the winemaking approach: rather than pursuing a heavily extracted Australian Shiraz style, Lethbridge uses traditional large-format oak and spontaneous fermentation to emphasise fruit purity, spice, savouriness and texture. Recent vintages have been wild fermented in a 3,000-litre wooden cuve with extended skin contact, followed by maturation in older large-format French oak.

The appearance is deep crimson to dark ruby with youthful purple tones.

The nose is expressive and distinctly spicy, combining dark plum, blackberry, black cherry and boysenberry with violet, black pepper and savoury herbal notes. The Malakoff site contributes a characteristic inky, spicy quality, while subtle earth, smoked meat and mineral nuances add complexity.

The palate is concentrated without being heavy, carrying juicy dark and red fruits through a savoury core of pepper, spice, herbs and mineral character. Fresh acidity provides energy and definition, while fine, controlled tannins and large-format oak give texture without masking the fruit. The overall style balances the richness expected of Pyrenees Shiraz with the fragrance, freshness and savoury restraint associated with Syrah.
